Interesting Idea

Dr. Jay Parkinson - HelloHealth

I found this via Twitter from @jeffjarvis and his blog BuzzMachine. It's definitely a Web 2.0 way to practice medicine! At this time, it's only available in New York City. but I hope that maybe this idea will catch on. I've been around health care professionals pretty much all of my life and I'm definitely interested in what the different opinions are of this doctor's idea. Tell me what you think!

UPDATE 11 Nov 08: It's been way too long since I've had time to finish any of these books! I've done quite a bit of studying though, so maybe soon. The holidays are coming up, so I'm holding out hope!

"The Power of Now" by Eckhart Tolle

I'm hoping to be inspired! We'll see how that goes... I'll let you know! UPDATE 3 Oct 08: Haven't gotten too far into this book yet... I have read the intro and part of the first chapter. It's definitely a book you need to sit and read cover to cover and, well, just don't have time to do that right now! UPDATE 19 Oct 08:Ok, this book is on pause... I obviously don't have enough time nor inclination to get as deep as necessary to be open to all this book has to offer. I've read the forward and the first chapter half a dozen times because I actually do think it's going to be a great book. I just need a beach and a good 5 free hours...

"Gone" by Jonathan Kellerman

Great murder-mystery author that fulfills the entertainment requirement in my reading. For those that are interested, it's an Alex Deleware novel.

"All-in-one CompTIA A+ Certification, 6th Ed. " by Mike Meyers

Might as well get a certification or two... dunno how much good this will actually do for me in the real world, but it's going to hopefully keep me in my current job!

"How the Grinch Stole Christmas" by Dr. Seuss

He's been obsessed with this story for the past couple of Christmas seasons. In fact, it will probably be one of the books we read each night from now until March. But this year, he's begun to read the book by himself! This makes me very thankful!

"National Geographic Kids"

This is a great little magazine that Anthony will sit and enjoy for hours. He loves the pictures and there are some cool little activities in each that he can't wait to finish. Thank you, Lala!

"Go! Go! Go!" by Francie Alexander and illustrated by Joan Halub

This is a Scholastic Phonics Reading Program book that has been great for Anthony. The series of books has increased his confidence and helped him recognize his "sight words". Thank you, Grandma Marge!

"Bedtime Battle" by Stan and Jan Bernstain

Great book, but still a battle!

"Life on Mars" on ABC

I'm finding that I'm really enjoying this version of the BBC drama. I am really digging the music! It's a lot of the same music that was played in my house while growing up.

"My Own Worst Enemy" on NBC

Badass show! The premise is enough to make me watch again at least another week! Plus, aren't we all our own worst enemies?!?

"Generation Kill" on HBO

I've only watched the first three episodes... I shouldn't comment too much on this show only because of my current occupation. Maybe one day when I've reached my limit of frustration, I'll blog more about my true feelings. Suffice to say, I do believe that if you would like a clearer picture of what's going on anywhere and everywhere in the military today, WATCH THIS SHOW. No matter what your feelings are regarding our current military posture, SUPPORT OUR TROOPS and FORCE OUR GOVERNMENT AND "LEADERSHIP" TO DO THE SAME.

"Dancing with the Stars" on ABC

I can't help it! This show is addicting! Anthony and I really enjoy watching this show together. Our favorites for Season 7 are Misty May-Treanor (kick-ass volleyball gold medalist), Warren Sapp (big, but loveable linebacker), and Susan Lucci (Ericka Kane, of course!) UPDATE: Misty May-Treanor is still our favorite, but has been benched due to a ruptured Achilles tendon. Damn that looked painful! An athlete's worst nightmare and we hope for her speedy recovery so she can whoop more ass on the volleyball court!

"Weeds" on Showtime

A friend recommended this show and I'm so very glad she did. It's a very interesting show that I can't help but watch. It's a very intriguing and complex story that I can't stop watching. It makes you wonder what you would do if you had to so that your family could make it in suburbia. Definitely do not watch around kids.

"Heros" on NBC

I enjoyed the last two seasons. We'll see how "Villians" pans out. UPDATE 29 Sep 08: Losing interest in this show quickly. It's turning into more of a soap opera.

"Army Wives" on Lifetime

Great summer show from the producer of Grey's Anatomy (another on the list of shows I watch for the time being).

"Fringe" on Fox

So far, I like this show... hasn't become a favorite yet, but it is interesting.

"Bones" on Fox

A couple of friends got me hooked on this one. I've finally caught up and now I can't wait for the next episode!

"Sons of Anarchy" on FX (but I watch via Hulu)

I haven't really decided about this show... it's mildly intriguing and the characters are being developed. This show has a lot of faces I recognize, so I'll watch for at least a few more episodes to see where it goes.

"Jon & Kate Plus 8" on The Learning Channel

He loves the kids on this show. Honestly, I think he has a little crush on Mady...

"Planet Earth" on The Discovery Channel

He's been mesmerized by this show and we don't have an HDTV.

"Man Vs. Wild" on The Discovery Channel

This show is a recent addition to his list of shows he likes... I'm pretty sure he likes it because some of the scenes make me physically gag!

"Dirty Jobs" on The Discovery Channel

He just loves this show! Mike Rowe apparently is the "funniest man on earth in the world" according the Anthony!

"Mythbusters" on The Discovery Channel

I'm not sure that Anthony understands everything that's going on with the myths, but he enjoys watching them crash things and blow stuff up!

"Caillou" on PBS

Hands down the most annoying show he watches! But for some reason, he's developed some affection for this squeeky-voiced 4 year old cartoon character. I'm trying to break him of this show, though. I'm pretty sure that eventually, the kid's voice will drive me insane!

Blackberry Pearl 8110 through AT&T

Has quickly become my favorite device. I can check email, update Twitter and Facebook, take pictures, and a million other things while on top of Mt. Rose. I only know because I did it while standing in about 5' of snow!

Apple 20gb Color iPod

This is an essential accessory for me. I've become an avid podcast listener (mostly TWiT-casts, but I do enjoy variety) and can't get enough of audiobooks.

Sony PEG TJ25 Clie Handheld

Pretty cool little gadget I got off of eBay 3 years ago. I use it mostly as an e-reader nowadays. Pretty good program for it is "Documents to Go".

Nintendo Wii

This was a gift from Santa Christmas '08. Anthony loves it. Actually, our whole group of family and friends seem to love it! We haven't integrated it with our wireless network yet, but that's a future task. It's a whole lot of fun, though!

Apple 4gb iPod

This was my first iPod. Anthony loves it. I put different audiobooks and podcasts on it for him and he plays and listens before bed. Sometimes it relaxes him enough that bedtime isn't such a battle!

Sony PlayStation Portable "PSP"

Anthony received this as a gift last Christmas from his Grammie and Lala. He's not used any of the wi-fi or movie-watching features, but he's getting pretty darn good at racing and ATV driving games!
